Excellent video
I agree on how very good this DVD is. I have been playing for many years, and I still learn a lot from watching it. The technique exercises are excellent, and he shows multiple versions of each rhythm, with the d-t-k notation on-screen for most of them.

This really is a beginner video aimed at beginners, rather than a quick intro to the rhythms followed by advanced examples.

It is beginner as in basic rather than simplistic. I have added his technique exercises to my daily warmup and practice routine.

Doumbek Technique and Rhythms for Arabic Percussion, Bellydance, and Drum Circles
I just wanted to recommend this DVD to anyone looking to get started with the dumbek! Of course in-person instruction would be invaluable, but if that is out of your area or price range this DVD offers an excellent, affordable alternative!

The DVD is professionally done with clear screen and sound. You are taken step-by-step through holding the instrument comfortably, making your first few beats, and then into some great practice drills to quickly get you feeling comfortable and more confident holding and playing the instrument.

Then proceed on to learning to recognize and perform the popular Arabic rhythms. Great for dancers and percussionists alike! The rhythms are all counted verbally and on the screen for easy reference and playability. I love how easy the DVD is to navigate through.

You can find the DVD here:
www.amazon.com/gp/product//B000GJ26GG I think it is more than worth the already affordable price. I left a review there, too, with more details.

Enjoy!
