in its many permutations it has become like a phoenix and risen fromits own ashes time and again... it has seen its good and bad times, and the hard times remains a west bank staple... - skadi , posted 02/10/06

Juice of life and the Nectar of the Gods
Hard Times Cafe...possibly the widest variety of people any one establishment can boast. I've seen college professors next to folks from Somalia and Ethiopia, playing chess and GO...punks and college students...plus the steady stream of artists, bikes, and pirates...HTC is always a first stop for me when I go back to town, and the last place before I leave...It's important to spend some time in each bathroom and look at the contribution on the walls and ceiling...ENJOY!! - andrew , posted 09/17/05

bestest cafe restaurant ever.
Hard Times is the most affordable world famous cafe and restaurant ever. Come on, coffee for a dollar and huge portions of food for cheap. Good music and great people who work in the collective and all sorts of people who go there to catch up, play chess, study etc. Come support a cafe that has been rockin it for over 10 years and still going strong. - Shaleen , posted 07/20/05

cheap and good
the food is resonabley priced, the portions are much more than enough, and the atmosphere is interesting. Their menu is vegitarian and vegan.
Its not the cleanest, but american is overly obsesed about germs anyway. Its open 22 hours a day and bring in people from all walks of life. The Aribic coffee is awsome and super stronge. - *Beek , posted 07/13/05

Hard Times Cafe-Best Food and Coffee EVER
Hard Times is a worker owned and run cafe/vegetarian restaurant. We're open twenty~two hours a day, serving a huge variety of vegetarian and vegan food as well as fresh baked goodies. Everything is made to order, no frozen/pre-packaged crap. We also have the best caffee ANYWHERE; fair trade, organic, and made fresh all day in press pots for the best flavor and the strongest cup o' joe you can buy. AND it's only a dollar. If you've never been here you have to check it out. And if you we're here a long time ago, you need to come back and check out how much better the place keeps getting. This is the place in Minneapolis to hang out and read a book or just relax. And if your not a total jerk, you can hang out all day with out being hassled or asked to move along. How many places left where you can do that?
That's right boys and girls-Hard Times Cafe. You know you love it! - - Paindog , posted 07/07/05
